“Spirit of Guernsey” responds to “Herm Trident 5” in the approaches to Herm

1530  Trident 5 puts out a Pan Pan call requesting assistance as she has struck a submerged object and may require a tow.

1531 “All ships”   VHF Ch. 16 call to go to “Trident V`s”, position Lifeboat Red, “Sarnia“ (workboat) tasked to assist.

1532 “Out Of the Blue” local fishing charter proceeding as vessel close by, other vessels responding

1539 “Out Of the Blue “ standing-by “Trident V”

1540 ”Spirit of Guernsey”, “Sarnia” and Sarnia Dory and “Breqhou Lass” pier-heads .

1550 Lifeboat alongside casualty, establishing a tow to move vessel out of immediate danger.

1558 “Sarnia” picking up a bridle to tow vessel to St Peter Port , “Spirit of Guernsey” transferring passengers from “Trident V”

1617 Lifeboat back in St Peter Port with all passengers safetly accounted for

1629 “Sarnia “ arrives back in St Peter Port with “Herm Trident V” in-tow.

1632 “Spirit of Guernsey” back on station.

“Spirit of Guernsey” called to assist local 10m Fishing Boat with fouled propeller

Tuesday 30th December, 2014

1835 A call was received by Guernsey Coastguard from the local fishing boat “Petite Mel” that her propeller was foul on some netting and that she required immediate assistance. The fishing vessel was just east of Beaucette Marina ….and close to rocks. Due to the precarious location of the vessel , an immediate Lifeboat Red was called and the “Spirit of Guernsey “ dispatched to go to the assistance of the disabled fishing boat

Missing kayaker

The St Peter Port Lifeboat “Spirit of Guernsey” was launched at 16:20 and Air Search 1 alerted after a member of the public had reported to the police that they had observed 2 kayaks on the South coast, and that a little later only 1 was returning with the other drifting empty.

 The missing kayaker was located on rocks off Icart point and the lifeboat was directed to the scene arriving at 16:33, where the casualty was recovered from the rocks suffering from hypothermia and injuries to his legs.

The casualty was transferred to an ambulance on arrival at St Peter Port, and the Spirit of Guernsey was back on station at 17:30.

1507 A call was received by Guernsey Coastguard from a member of the public that a person was shouting for Help on Longue Pierre Beacon close to St Martins Point.

At this time the Sarnia was proceeding south and was requested to divert to Longue Pierre area to investigate.

1510 Lifeboat Red …. Tasked to the area to assist. Airsearch Red — also requested.

1534 Lifeboat on scene, “ Sarnia “ + dory recovering person from Longue Pierre beacon. Casualty transferred to “Spirit of Guernsey” At this time the casualty advised the Lifeboat Crew that there was an additional person missing, last seen one hour ago!

This information escalated the search considerably. The additional assets of “Jethou Flyer” “Leopardess” were requested to assist. The Guernsey Police were requested to muster the Civil Defence Volunteers and asked to commence a Cliff Search form Fermain around to Moulin Huet areas.

On further questioning of the Survivor on-board the Lifeboat, it was apparent that their boat had sunk rapidly just South of Fermain Bay. The other casualty was apparently a strong swimmer. Calls from members of the Public started to come in of another person clinging to rocks close to shore, so the focus of the search was moved to this area.

1558 A 999 call was received from the person we were searching for that he was safely ashore. Police were requested to attend and took this survivor immediately to A+E at the P.E.H.
With this information, once it was established that everyone was safe, the Search Operation was called off and everyone was stood down.

1609 Marine assets retuning to St Peter Port, where the casualty on the Lifeboat will be checked on arrival by St John Ambulance + Rescue Staff.

The Guernsey Search and Rescue Services are very grateful for all the assistance and support or the various Emergency Services and additional assets, that worked together to achieve a very successful result.
